The AQ7280 is the most flexible OTDR in our lineup due to a modular platform to create a variety of systems from a basic unit to units with filtered ports to test live traffic networks in applications from long haul, to metro, core and FTTH. 35+ years of OTDR expertise has enabled us to offer a unique multi-tasking feature that allows four distinct fibers to be tested simultaneously. Its intuitive icon-based touchscreen lets users perform measurements with ease, and the 15-hour battery life ensures uninterrupted usage in the field where the data can be conveniently transferred wirelessly.

The cable construction is similar for all cable sizes: Inner conductor, foam dielectric, outer conductor and outer jacket. The cables are available as standard with either a PE jacket for outdoor installations or in a flame retardant and halogen-free version to comply with indoor requirements for health and safety, IEC 60332 and CPR-EN 50575.

Today’s splicing equipment is fast, efficient, and requires minimal maintenance due to advances in splicing technology. However, environmental contamination, such as dust, dirt, and fiber coating debris, as well as, the silica deposits generated during the fusion process eventually find their way to the optical elements and v-grooves. This contamination will offset the fibers and degrade performance. Thorough cleaning of a fusion splicer’s optical elements and alignment V-grooves is critical to ensure successful trouble-free splicing operations. CS-1 Cotton Swabs are especially useful for such cleaning operations. The small size of the CS-1 swabs ensures accessibility in tight places and will not leach out chemicals or lint and contaminate optical elements.

Constantly increasing bandwidth requirements in all areas of communication and computing are placing ever greater demands on networking I/O equipment. Current edge-mount copper or fiber interfaces are at their limits even over the short distances on the PCB. Embedded parallel optics have become the solution of choice to meet these demands. High-performance routers, switches and computers have already been utilizing this technology for a decade. Parallel optic solutions are currently used in a wide range of applications: in links between nodes of supercomputers, switches in international Internet gateways as well as in data centers and central offices. Embedded opto-electrical modules and optical engines utilize parallel-optics transmitter and receiver arrays. For optimum signal integrity, thermal management, I/O consolidation and EMI/ESD, the opto-electrical modules are directly mounted close to the processors at the PCB. Parallel-optic links can complement electronic signalling in parallel lanes such as XAUI and PCIe. Using PRIZM® Light Turn®, it is possible to implement a passive plug connection between the opto-electrical modules and the fiber optic network.
